WHAT IS SOLEA?

Advanced
Laser
Technology

Solea is a CO2 dental laser system designed to replace the drill for most cavity treatments and soft tissue procedures. Unlike traditional drills, Solea works with remarkable precision and minimal noise, making the experience significantly more comfortable for patients, especially those with dental anxiety.

One of the most significant advantages of Solea is that approximately 80% of filling procedures can be completed without local anesthesia. This means many patients can avoid needles, experience less anxiety, and return to their day more quickly after treatment. That means no needles, no numbness afterward, and no waiting for the novocaine to wear off. Most patients are able to get back to their day immediately after treatment.

Dr. James Hulsey has completed advanced Solea training, including Solea Sleep certification for snoring treatment. He uses Solea technology for cavity treatment, minimally invasive soft tissue procedures, and select airway-related treatments. He uses the Solea system for a wide range of procedures and continues to expand its application across services including periodontal treatment and soft tissue care.

BENEFITS OF SOLEA

Why Patients
Love Solea
Laser Dentistry

For many patients, the anticipation of dental treatment is harder than the treatment itself. Solea changes that equation. By reducing the need for traditional drills and allowing approximately 80% of fillings to be completed without anesthesia, Solea creates a more comfortable experience for many patients. The technology is also used for minimally invasive soft tissue procedures, helping improve comfort while supporting excellent clinical outcomes.

Solea is particularly well-suited for patients with dental anxiety, those who have had difficult experiences with traditional drills, or anyone who wants a faster, more comfortable appointment. Children who are nervous about the dentist often respond very well to laser treatment because there is no loud noise, vibration, or injection involved.

Beyond comfort, Solea also offers clinical precision; the laser targets only the affected tissue with minimal impact on surrounding healthy tooth structure, which supports better long-term outcomes.

HOW IT WORKS

The Solea Process

Step 1: Consultation

Dr. Hulsey will assess whether your procedure is a good candidate for Solea laser treatment. Most cavity treatments and many soft tissue procedures qualify. He will walk you through what to expect so you feel fully informed before treatment begins.

Step 2: Laser Treatment

Using the Solea CO2 laser, Dr. Hulsey precisely removes decay or treats the target tissue without the vibration or noise of a traditional drill. In most cases, anesthesia is not required, and the procedure is completed quickly and comfortably.

Step 3: Recovery

Because there’s no numbing agent involved in most Solea procedures, there’s no lingering numbness after your appointment. Most patients walk out feeling completely normal and are able to eat, drink, and go about their day right away.

SOLEA FOR SOFT TISSUE

Soft Tissue
Procedures

In addition to cavity treatment, Solea is used at Oklahoma Smiles for a range of soft tissue procedures. These include frenectomies and frenotomies, the procedures used to treat tongue-tie and lip-tie conditions, which Dr. Hulsey is specifically trained to perform.

Laser soft tissue treatment is precise, minimally invasive, and typically results in faster healing times compared to traditional surgical techniques. Dr. Hulsey will determine whether laser treatment is appropriate based on your specific needs.
